General Description of Bible Study at Lifelight:
In pursuit of being a community that is learning to live and love like Jesus, we at Lifelight have committed ourselves to regularly listen to and study the Bible, both as individuals and in the fellowship of the gathered community.
It is true that we often turned to scripture in moments of desperation. However, just as in driving a car, we should not wait to turn on our car’s headlights only after we have already crashed into something. God never intended for us to wait for emergencies in order to consult his Word.
Jesus himself instructed us to “abide in him.”As instructions for living life in daily faithfulness to Jesus, we view God’s Word as a “lamp to our feet and a light to our path,” which guides and prepares us for the joys and challenges of life we face each day. In other words, we are to continuously walk in the illumination of the Light of His Word

The Word of Life: A Study of 1 John
A half century after the disciples watch Jesus ascend into Heaven the growing church was not without struggle. As in his gospel, the clear purpose of John’s letters proclaim that in light of the Good News of Jesus it’s recipients “may have fellowship God and and each other.” Yet, John knew that this fellowship would not happen until they set aside their own selfish desires in favor of the pursuits that God has in mind for them.
As it always has been, the most difficult things to get straight in life are God and love. More often than not, the mess we make of our lives is directly related to the failure or ignorant stupidity of these two. God and love are intricately united. If we want to love the right way, we have to learn to relate to God the right way and vice versa. However, there are always people who don’t want to be pinned down to the God or love Jesus reveals. Thus they make up their own idea of God and their own style of love. To these people, and us, Pastor John provides a wonderfully explicit outline of how this works: Jesus the Messiah is the focus, and it is He who provides a full understanding of God and shows us the mature working-out of love.
